CJ Charles creates custom ring for Spark Gala
For those who follow the fundraising gala calendar, it's time to bring out those gowns, suits and dress shoes because it's that time of year again. The 34th edition of the UC San Diego Moores Cancer Center Gala, SPARK, is set to happen in style this month!

For over three decades, Moores Cancer Center supporters have come together to celebrate the triumphs against the ongoing battle against cancer and prepare for new discoveries by attending the Celebrity Chefs Cook Gala. Last year's edition saw this transforming into what is now the SPARK Gala.
A new name for the same cause, the Spark Gala is one of the most celebrated galas in the San Diego area. This year, it will be hosted at the Grand Del Mar on April 25, beginning at 6 PM. Promising to be the pinnacle of elegance, this sparkling evening will hold a cocktail reception, dinner, live auction, Raise the Paddle, and a private performance by singing sensation Megan Hilty! Truly a night to remember is on the cards.

Continuing our commitment to the fight against cancer, in honor of this edition of the gala, CJ Charles has designed a custom-made ring, which will be auctioned off the night of the gala, with the proceeds going to the UCSD Moores Cancer Center. The platinum and 18k yellow gold ring bears a stunning center-set GIA certified 10.14ct Colombian Emerald with minor clarity enhancement in an 18k yellow gold prong setting, with a trillion cut white diamond on either side, accentuated with fancy yellow and white brilliant cut diamonds.
So, what makes this ring so special?...besides the occasion for which it has been created, of course. The answer is simple...the Colombian emerald. Considering that these emeralds are the purest emeralds on the face of the earth, you wouldn't be wrong to consider it the king of all emeralds! "Colombian" referring to both the intensity and vividness of the color, as well as to their being mined in Colombia, these emeralds are deeply prized by those who hold the emerald supreme.
What makes the Colombian emerald the purest is the rock from which it is formed. The majority of the emerald-mining world finds theirs in igneous rock, but these are found in sedimentary rock formations. Why is this important?...because unlike other rock, sedimentary rock contains a saline solution that washes out the impurities inherent to all emeralds. The end result...a pure emerald.
